This is an interactive workshops designed for clinicians and administration staff working in primary healthcare. The aim is to provide the tools to understand and bridge cultural difference in order to have effective interactions with people from different cultural backgrounds and ensure the delivery of high quality health care.

- Dr Margaret Kay, Clinical Lead in Multicultural Health, Brisbane South PHN and General Practitioner at Salisbury Medical Centre
Learning Outcomes:
- Understand the dynamics of culture and cultural difference within the consultation.
- Describe how preventive health care can be effectively delivered to patients when there is cultural and/or linguistic difference.
- Evaluate methods for ensuring patient safety within the GP consultation process when the patient is of refugee or CALD background.
- Develop communication strategies for the practice that enable effective engagement with refugee-background and CALD patients.
- Develop a protocol for effective use of professional interpreters.
